Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess a 4-year full-time regular B.E./B.Tech in Chemical or Petrochemical Engineering from an AICTE-approved or UGC-recognized university.
Minimum Marks Required:
- UR / OBC-NCL / EWS candidates: 60% aggregate across all semesters
- SC / ST / PwBD candidates: 50% aggregate across all semesters
Important: Qualifications obtained through part-time, distance learning, or correspondence mode are strictly NOT eligible.
Experience Requirements by Grade
E1 — Assistant Engineer: No post-qualification experience required. Fresh B.E./B.Tech graduates are eligible to apply directly.
E2 — Engineer: Minimum 3 years of post-qualification work experience in a supervisory or executive capacity, with at least 2 years specifically in a Refinery, Petrochemical plant, Hydrocarbon Gas Processing Plant, Fertilizer plant, or Oil Exploration sector.
E3 — Senior Engineer: Minimum 6 years of post-qualification experience in relevant sectors, with at least 4 years in core refinery or petrochemical operations.
E5 — Senior Manager: Minimum 12 years of post-qualification experience in supervisory or executive roles within refinery, petrochemical, or allied sectors. Candidates with petrochemical sector experience will be given preference for the Technical Planning role.

Selection Process
For E1 & E2 Positions (Assistant Engineer & Engineer)
The selection follows a three-stage elimination process:
Stage 1 — Computer Based Test (CBT)
- No negative marking
- Section I: General Aptitude — English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation
- Section II: Technical/Professional Knowledge — Based on Chemical Engineering curriculum
- Qualifying marks: 50% in Technical section; 60% overall for UR/EWS; 54% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD
Stage 2 — Group Task / Group Discussion
- Minimum qualifying: 40% for UR/EWS; 33.33% for reserved categories
Stage 3 — Personal Interview

What the Role Actually Involves
A Chemical Engineer at HRRL works in an operational, shift-based environment — not a conventional desk role. Depending on your grade, responsibilities include:
At E1 & E2 Level: Working three-shift rotations as DCS Panel Operator or Field Supervisor across process units including CDU/VDU, FCCU, DHT, HGU, SRU, Delayed Coker Unit, Dual Feed Cracker, Polypropylene and LLDPE/HDPE units. Responsibilities include process monitoring, SOP development, pre-commissioning coordination, plant start-up and shutdown management, and work permit issuance.
At E3 & E5 Level: Scope expands to HAZOP reviews, process simulation using HYSIS and PIMS, licensor interface, yield accounting, production planning, technical planning, and cross-functional team leadership.
Physical Fitness Note: Field roles require climbing structures, working at heights, operating in hazardous environments with PPE, and rapid emergency response. A Physical Fitness Efficiency Test (Agility, Endurance, Height) is mandatory for E0-grade positions.

Expert Watch-Outs Before You Apply
